Vogue Arabia Names March14 a Reason to Stay in Dubai This August

4 min read

The Residence

This month, Vogue Arabia published its guide to the best of August in beauty across the region — the launches, the treatments, the addresses worth knowing. March14 Beauty Residence was named among them. We are grateful to the title, and to beauty editor Nitya Chablani, for the recognition.

What Vogue Arabia saw in Dubai this August

August in this city is usually a story about leaving. The heat arrives, the calendar empties, and the question becomes where to go rather than where to stay. Vogue Arabia made the opposite argument: that March14 is, in the magazine's words, "a rather good case for staying in the city."

The magazine described a beauty destination that reads less like a salon than a private address, founded by a beauty expert whose work sits close to celebrity. That reading is precise, and it is the one thing we would have hoped an editor would notice first.

Why the best beauty salon in Dubai does not behave like a salon

Any address in this city can call itself the best beauty salon in Dubai. The claim costs nothing. What it is worth depends entirely on who repeats it back to you — a client, a fashion editor, a colourist who trained on backstage schedules and now works four days a week in Al Quoz.

March14 was not built as a salon with ambitions. It was built as a residence: one roof, several ateliers, and a standard borrowed from performance beauty rather than from hospitality. Hair, nails, lashes, brows and tan are handled in sequence by artists who each hold a single discipline, in a single visit, without the client being passed between three addresses across the city. That is a logistical claim as much as an aesthetic one, and it is the reason the model works in a city where time is the scarcest luxury.

The distinction shows most clearly in the technical answer. A March14 artist will tell a client that the correct response to damaged nails is six months of patience rather than another set. Most rooms will not say that, because it costs them the booking. It is also the only honest answer, and honesty is what turns a first appointment into a decade of them.

Why the press keeps returning to March14

Editorial attention is not bought, and it does not repeat itself by accident. Vogue Arabia returned to March14 eleven days later, when it asked founder Ruby Barreau to explain why Japanese manicures are replacing gel extensions. The beauty press across the region has followed the same pattern: the Nails Theatre for its 3D and hand-painted work, the Hair Studio for colour and Kérastase protocols, the Spray Tan Studio for a finish that photographs.

The through-line in the coverage is consistent. Journalists arrive expecting a luxury beauty salon in Dubai and leave writing about something closer to a studio — technicians who can explain the chemistry of what they are doing, and a room built for the standard rather than for the photograph. We would rather be written about for that than for anything else.
